The Arizona Strip Proposed Plan/Final EIS was released to the public on Friday, March 2, 2007. The Proposed Plan/Final EIS is a revised Resource Management Plan for the Arizona Strip Field Office, a new management plan for the Vermilion Cliffs National Monument, and a new management plan for the Grand Canyon-Parashant National Monument. It is also a Proposed General Management Plan/Final EIS for the NPS Portion of the Grand Canyon-Parashant National Monument, since that Monument is jointly administered by both the BLM and NPS. The Proposed Plan/Final EIS describes and analyzes five alternatives for managing 3,323,067 acres of BLM and NPS administered land in northwestern Arizona, north of the Grand Canyon. Information provided by the public, Cooperating Agencies, other agencies, and organizations, and BLM and NPS personnel have been used in preparing this Proposed Plan/Final EIS.

Major issues addressed in the Proposed Plan/Final EIS include management of access, management of areas having wilderness characteristics, protection of natural and cultural resources, management of livestock grazing, and recreation.

The three final management plans resulting from this planning effort will identify BLM and NPS management on the land for the foreseeable future. Four Records of Decision will be signed by the BLM and NPS later this year.
